Everything you need to know about using GameLib.
When you download or purchase an asset on GameLib, you are granted a specific license to use that asset in your projects. We keep our licenses simple, developer-friendly, and clear.
1. Commercial License (Standard)
The vast majority of assets on GameLib fall under the Commercial License. This is a permissive license designed for indie developers, graphic designers, and professional studios alike.
- What you CAN do: You may use the asset in personal, educational, and commercial, revenue-generating projects (e.g., video games sold on Steam, mobile apps with ads, commercial video renders, client website designs).
- What you CAN do: You may heavily modify, edit, recolor, and incorporate the asset into your own larger, compiled end-product works.
- What you DO NOT need to do: You do not need to credit GameLib or the original creator (though it is always highly appreciated!).
- What you CANNOT do (Anti-Redistribution): You are strictly prohibited from reselling, redistributing, or sub-licensing the asset files, even if you modify them. Tweaking colors, altering geometry, or making adjustments does not grant you the right to sell them as your own standalone assets, UI kits, templates, or stock graphics on GameLib or any competing platform.
- What you CANNOT do: You cannot include the raw source files (modified or not) in an open-source repository (like GitHub) where others can download them freely.
2. Editorial License (Fan-Art & Inspired Works)
Assets marked explicitly as "Editorial" are inspired by, or contain elements of, third-party intellectual property (e.g., styles reminiscent of existing commercial video games, trademarked shapes, or specific lore elements) that GameLib does not officially own or represent.
- What you CAN do: You may use Editorial assets for personal projects, educational purposes, non-profit fan games, editorial journalism, or private, non-commercial modding servers.
- What you CANNOT do: You cannot use Editorial assets in any commercial product intended for retail sale, official merchandise, or massive monetization. Doing so puts you at direct risk of legal action from the actual Intellectual Property (IP) owner. GameLib holds no liability for your misuse of editorial content.
3. AI Training Restriction
Regardless of the license type, downloading assets from GameLib (whether free or premium) does not grant you the right to scrape, compile, or use our digital library, image previews, or raw asset files to train machine learning models or generative AI algorithms. Such usage is strictly prohibited.
